CHALLENGE

Driven by a deep commitment to their customers’ success, Somero Enterprises INC. has earned lasting loyalty and trust. This dedication fuels their continuous innovation and improvement.

Faced with the challenge of an outdated laser screed tool, plagued by legacy software and performance issues, Somero embarked on a transformative journey. Their goal? To modernize and enhance their equipment, ensuring they continue to meet the evolving needs of their customers with cutting-edge solutions.

SOLUTION

To address the need for advanced functionality and performance, Somero Enterprises INC. partnered with Xeratec Software Development to design a cutting-edge software solution.

The Somero 3-D Profiler System leverages serial-based communication to interface with a Trimble Total Station and a Somero Laser Screed which creates an accurate 3-D representation of the job site and a digital representation of the screed’s location. This allows accurate feedback on data points such as speed, distance from grade, and ability to plot real-world locations.

Xeratec Software Development undertook a thorough refactoring of the software’s codebase, consolidating multiple applications into a single, streamlined solution. This significant code cleanup resulted in performance improvements of up to 1000% and established a solid foundation for future enhancements.

The team also overhauled the OpenGL component, which handles the 3-D visualizations. This upgrade enables the system to manage large-scale projects without the need to segment data into smaller jobs, achieving a remarkable 1200% increase in performance. Additionally, the improved OpenGL provides a more accurate and detailed visual representation of the machine.

The software’s user-friendliness was further enhanced through the modernization of serial communication components. These updates have not only stabilized the software but also set the stage for future innovations. With these advancements, the Somero 3-D Profiler System now delivers exceptional performance with ease of use, making it an indispensable tool.

TECHNOLOGY STACKS

The Somero 3-D Profiler system has been used on construction projects for some of the world’s largest organizations including Costco, Walmart, Home Depot, FedEx, Lowe’s, Tesla and more.
Somero Enterprise INC. has many glowing recommendations. This one in particular highlights the 3-D Profiler System and how easy it is to use.

“Projects typically come with enough headaches- anything that can make my life easier is more than welcomed. This system is a dream come true. I can put it in the hands of any one of my operators and trust that the job will turn out exactly as planned. We’d never work any other way now that we have it!”
